ThyssenKrupp's carbon footprint

ThyssenKrupp reported Total CO2e Emissions - Location-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 30 September 2021 at 24,500 Kt (+1,800/+7.9% y-o-y). At the sime time, carbon intensity was down at 611 t (-110 /-15.2% y-o-y).

ThyssenKrupp's Scope 3 emissions increased sharply to 4,000 Kt (+200/+5.3% y-o-y). The performance has been erratic recently.

The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 30% by 2030 from a base year 2018, which translates into the estimated reduction of -856 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2030. This science-based target is aligned with Paris Agreement to limit global warming to <2°C above pre-industrial levels.

Also, the company commits to achieving net zero for all Scopes by 2050, which translates into the estimated reduction of -983 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2050. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
