Siemens's carbon footprint

Siemens reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 30 September 2021 at 595 Kt (-83 /-12.2% y-o-y). Also positively, carbon intensity declined to 8.1 t (-3.2 /-28.3% y-o-y).

Siemens's Scope 3 emissions declined to 469,271 Kt (-38,420 /-7.6% y-o-y). The performance has been erratic recently.

The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 50% by 2030 from a base year 2019, which translates into the estimated reduction of -15 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2030. This science-based target is aligned with Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Siemens aims to achive carbon neutrality across its operations (Scope 1 + 2) in 2030. Companies normally become carbon neutral with the help of the acquisition of carbon offsets rather than absolute reductions in their own greenhouse emissions. Also, carbon neutrality does not include non-CO2 GHG emissions.
