Metso Outotec reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2021 at 52 Kt (+7.3/+16% y-o-y). At the sime time, carbon intensity declined to 10 t (-1.2 /-10.3% y-o-y).

Metso Outotec's Scope 3 emissions spiked to 3,320 Kt (+422/+15% y-o-y). This is broadly in line with the growth trend (CAGR +14% since 4Q'19).

The company is committed to achieving net zero for Scope 1 + 2 by 2030, which translates into the estimated reduction of -5.8 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2030. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.

Also, the company commits to reducing Scope 3 by 20% by 2025 from a base year 2019, which translates into the estimated reduction of -381 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2025. This science-based target is aligned with Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
