Carbon footprint
Primary Climate Goal
Johnson Matthey aims to reduce Scope 1 + 2 by 33% by 2030 from a base year 2020
GHG emissions and Carbon intensity
Johnson Matthey reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 March 2021 at 389 Kt (-2.6 /-0.7% y-o-y). Also positively, carbon intensity was down at 20 t (-0.6 /-2.9% y-o-y).
No public disclosure of Scope 3 emissions has been found for Johnson Matthey at the moment.
The company is committed to reducing Scope 1 + 2 by 33% by 2030 from a base year 2020, which translates into the estimated reduction of -14 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2030. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
Johnson Matthey also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. Johnson Matthey plc commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 33% by FY2029/30 from a FY2019/20 base year. Johnson Matthey plc also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services 20% within the same timeframe.
