HeidelbergCement AG reported Total CO2e Emissions - Location-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 31 December 2020 at 75,740 Kt (-1,940 /-2.5% y-o-y). At the same time, carbon intensity increased marginally to 3,674 t (+7.4/+0.2% y-o-y).

HeidelbergCement AG's Scope 3 emissions was down at 21,260 Kt (-1,450 /-6.4% y-o-y).

The company is committed to achieving net zero for Scope 1 + 2 by 2050, which translates into the estimated reduction of -2,525 Kt per annum over the period of FY2021 - FY2050. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.

HeidelbergCement AG also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. German multinational building materials company HeidelbergCement commits to reduce scope 1 GHG emissions 15% per ton of cementitious materials by 2030 from a 2016 base year. HeidelbergCement also commits to reduce scope 2 GHG emissions 65% per ton of cementitious materials within the same timeframe.**The target boundary includes biogenic emissions and removals associated with the use of bioenergy.”
