Secondary Climate Goal
Cisco Systems aims to achieve net zero for all Scopes by 2040
GHG emissions and Carbon intensity
Cisco Systems reported Total CO2e Emissions - Market-Based Scope 1 + Scope 2 for the twelve months ending 30 June 2021 at 179 Kt (-24 /-12% y-o-y). Also positively, carbon intensity was down at 3.6 t (-0.5 /-12.2% y-o-y).
Cisco Systems's Scope 3 emissions plunged to 17,756 Kt (
The company is committed to achieving net zero for Scope 1 + 2 by 2025, which translates into the estimated reduction of -45 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2025. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
Also, the company commits to achieving net zero for all Scopes by 2040, which translates into the estimated reduction of -944 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2040. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
Also, the company commits to reducing Scope 3 by 30% by 2030 from a base year 2019, which it appears to have already achieved as of 2021. This target, however, has not been recognised as science-based (and as aligned with Paris Agreement) by the SBTi.
Cisco Systems also has a science-based goal that, however, does not appear to explicitly target a company-wide reduction in emissions in absolute terms. Cisco commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 60% by FY2022 from a FY2007 base-year. Cisco also commits to Improve system power efficiency—as measured from the input from the facility to the board-mounted ASICs, memory and other chip devices—from 77 to 87% by FY2022 for large, rack-mounted equipment. This efficiency target will result in 13% absolute reductions in GHG emissions from network and facilities equipment operations by FY2022 from a FY2016 base-year.
