Carbon footprint
Primary Climate Goal
Apple aims to reduce all Scopes by 61.7% by 2030 from a base year 2019
GHG emissions and Carbon intensity
Apple reported gross GHG emissions (Scope 1 + 2 before carbon offsets) for the twelve months ending 30 September 2021 at 58 Kt (+11/+22% y-o-y). Carbon intensity also remained unchnaged at 0.2 t.
Apple's Scope 3 emissions grew to 23,130 Kt (
The company is committed to reducing all Scopes by 61.7% by 2030 from a base year 2019, which translates into the estimated reduction of -1,511 Kt per annum over the period of FY2022 - FY2030. This science-based target is aligned with Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Apple aims to achive carbon neutrality across its entire value chain (all Scopes) in 2030. Companies normally become carbon neutral with the help of the acquisition of carbon offsets rather than absolute reductions in their own greenhouse emissions. Also, carbon neutrality does not include non-CO2 GHG emissions.
